The Launch of Singapore’s First Vertical Farm in Tampines
The district of Tampines is now home to a high-tech vertical farm attached to the side of an HDB block. This high-tech, zero-emission, zero food mile vertical farm will realize the true farm-to-fork journey
This vertical farm (also known as the VFS) is a zero-net-energy farm that uses harvested rainwater and micro-drip technology to grow leafy vegetables like Nai Bai, lettuce, Red Bayam, Spinach and Sharp Bayam. Residents can then purchase the vegetables directly at the farm in the future.
This farm is supported by Temasek Foundation (TF), Tampines Town Council (TTC), Parkwest and Singapore Food Association (SFA) to test-bed and commercialize vegetables and crop production in Singapore, to contribute towards the goal of producing 30 per cent of Singapore’s nutritional needs locally by 2030.
